Do Vitamins Tablets Really Help Midlife Health & Fitness?
You may have a deficiency of something, you may need a boost once in a while, but how many of us regularly take a vitamin tablet ? why do we feel the need?
In midlife our metabolism slows. We have to accept and adjust perhaps for the first time, that we can not, and do not need to eat like we are growing teenagers anymore. Obesity is all around us and affects many of us simply because we choose to eat too much and exercise too little. Its as simple as that yet we try to avoid the truth of it. We all need to look at ourselves and be honest. We don’t need to eat so much, we don’t need vitamins as much since we can get them from a good diet. We need to exercise more.
What is wrong with simply eating fruit and vegetables, minimising processed food and other foods that don’t offer much nutritional value?.
What’s so hard about getting out and exercising once a day? just going for a walk, or bike ride, you don’t even need to spend money on an expensive gym either.
Why are we trying so hard to avoid just doing this? fruit, veg, exercise? are we so deluded that we have to now spend more money on vitamin tablets when the natural vitamins in fruit and vegetables are far more valuable to us?
Here is an interesting article on the issues around taking vitamin tablets. Stop today, throw them away and just eat more fruit and vegetables unless you feel morally committed to keeping the drug industry very healthy instead.

I disagree. Most people do not get enough nutrients from their diet. Do you realize how much you would have to eat in order to get the amount of nutrients that are a daily requirement? Now that the Dept of Agriculture is planning on irradiating all of our vegetables, where will the nutrition come from. I think you need to read more about nutrition from sources such as the Orthomolecular Society. Try the Health Ranger’s articles as well. You have been had by articles that the pharmaceutical industry just loves to promote.
I do agree with you that people should get rid of the processed food as well as incorporate exercise in their lives. I also believe vitamins can help…but they have to be the high quality vitamins…not those from the supermarket that are made of industrial toxic sludge. Natural food supplements are different from low quality supermarket garbage that the news media keeps using as evidence that vitamins are no good.
HI Carolyn, thanks for your thoughts. I can’t confess to being an expert but I’m sure that we are able, unless we have a deficiency, at getting the right amount of nutrients for our daily requirements from organic natural sources. We are part of nature, or were once. We roamed seasonally gaining all that we needed from the natural resources around us. Why now do we need to rely on pills? who is kidding us? who convinced us?
The pharmaceutical industry just wants one thing, for everyone to take each of their pills a day, that’s what gets them up in the morning but I take your point about food supplements and differences their might be between the available drugs out there, however I do feel we should be honest with ourselves about our own source of quality fruit and veg before we look at non-natural sources first.
And of course, as we get older we may not be able to extract nutrients as effectively from nature as we could have done when we were younger as well.
What does anyone else think?
